Welcome to the city of Cusco, Peru!

The round trips of the volunteers from their destinations of origin are generally made by air, who are responsible for your stay in this host destination, we have years of experience in the reception of volunteers and travelers on our national route, via the Jorge Chávez airport in the city of Lima and the continuity of the trip to the Alejandro Velasco Astete airport in the city of Cusco. Therefore, we will be attentive to monitor during this leg of the trip, the normal movement of the flights chosen by the volunteer. From your arrival at the Cusco air terminal, the responsibilities are in our charge and established in the Contract: “Volunteer/Machupicchu World Projects & Travel”, it being clearly established that both costs and schedules of the aforementioned round trips are borne by the volunteers. Also for your information, it is important to indicate that the airline with the largest international connection from Cusco airport (CUZ) is LATAM Airlines Peru, through its Hub in the city of Lima.

MANAGEMENT OF THE ENTRY VISA TO THE COUNTRY

The need for a visa to enter Peru depends on the nationality of the visitor and the purpose of their trip. For tourism, many Latin American and European citizens do not need a visa and can enter with only their passport, with a stay limit of up to 183 days. However, other citizens do require a visa, which must be processed at the Peruvian consulate in their country.

According to the regulations of the Peruvian State, a foreigner who wishes to visit Peru for recreational or similar purposes, requires a visa to enter the country, they must obtain a tourist visa at the Peruvian consular offices of the country where they are.  This procedure must be processed 15 calendar days before your trip.

Citizens of some countries in Latin America and Europe do not need this document.

The submission of the visa application and the required documentation do not guarantee the automatic granting of the visa. Each order is evaluated individually by the Peruvian consul. In addition, during the process you may be asked for additional requirements, on which, if they are within our competence as a binding body for your trip, we will be alert to cover and/or send that request.

It is important to note that the maximum period of stay with this visa is up to 183 calendar days without the possibility of extension, either in one continuous visit or in several consecutive visits within the period of 12 months from the date of issuance of the document; however, it is the immigration authority who indicates, at the time of stamping your passport, the time of stay you have authorized. The institution responsible for these procedures in Peru is the National Superintendence of Migration.

THE STAY

The “hub” for the volunteers to stay in Peru is the city of Cusco. Therefore, the initial contact with the volunteers will be at the Alejandro Velasco Astete airport, where we will be waiting for your arrival, to continue to our headquarters called “Home”; the first technical-family stop where you will have an acclimatization stay of three or four hours, while the corresponding introduction and familiarization is carried out in relation to your stay, and on the regulations linked to the project chosen by the volunteer. Peru, politically is divided into regions, Cusco is the name of the region in reference to Cusco City, the space where the projects are carried out are located in various points of that region, mainly in the territorial area linked to the Historic Sanctuary of Machupicchu, and some other spaces not only geographically complementary, but also within the historical aspect (Case of the Pikillacta project).

It is important to know about the altitude levels of the areas linked to the projects: Cusco is at 3,399 meters above sea level. Machu Picchu is located at 2,430 meters above sea level. Urubamba, (Sacred Valley of the Incas), is at 2,871 meters above sea level. According to their air conditioning process, which is generally about three or four hours, the volunteer will be transferred to the base headquarters of their project, otherwise they will spend one night in the city of Cusco, leaving the next morning to their destination headquarters, where they will be received by the monitor responsible for their stay at the headquarters and their corresponding scheduled activities.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF HOSTS

The Volunteer in relation to his/her stay and link with the host organization: “MACHUPICCHU WORLD PROJECTS & TRAVEL” has two instances of responsibility between the Volunteer-Host Entity parties:

FIRST: The general conditions of stay with “MACHUPICCHU WORLD PROJECTS & TRAVEL”

SECOND: The specific conditions with the project headquarters.

In relation to the former, the following general conditions are considered:

  • When the development of the project is carried out in Cusco city, the volunteer joins to live with a host family. In the event that, due to the operational aspects of the project, the volunteer must move to the base headquarters of the projects in the rural area, they will be established in the specific conditions that each project headquarters has, where the family nature of the stay is also maintained, in both cases the volunteer will be in full agreement to live in the conditions that are in a city. not so much the same as others, in a house with middle-class customs, and in the case of the rural environment the same, in the conditions that are customary due to its nature and authenticity of the current Andean experiential aspect. In both cases, the coexistence and stay of the volunteers will be permanently supervised by our staff, guaranteeing the comfort, conditions and security offered for their stay.
  • The work schedule of the volunteers will be from Monday to Friday of each week, according to the time (daily schedule) established by each project and under the conditions of the same.
  • Weekends (Saturday and Sunday) are available for personal matters and rest of the volunteer. Any scheduling during both days must be reported prior to departure to the direct managers (monitors) in your area of stay.
  • The monitors of each project for the purposes of the volunteers’ activities on weekends, have a portfolio of options in relation to transportation services, lodging (if applicable or emergency), food and recreational activities, with suppliers qualified by our institution. The change of the options in suggestion by the volunteer’s decision will be his or her sole responsibility, excluding the host institution from any commitment to an adverse event or consequence resulting from the volunteer’s decision.
  • In case of health risks in relation to emergencies and medical emergencies that may arise, our institution has the support of the Consortium of the Pardo and San José Clinics, the most important in the Cusco region, as well as its medical headquarters located in the citadel of Machupicchu, in the archaeological site of Wiñay Wayna (Inca Trail) and the town of Machupicchu Pueblo. as well as the permanent rescue alert in those areas, and if applicable, an evacuation service by air (helicopter) with the Andes air company.
  • In relation to the above, it is important to note that we operate in agreement with the aforementioned medical consortium, the costs of zero payment coverage or the payment reimbursement system on the aforementioned medical services. The coverage of travel insurance, due to the nature and special conditions of work areas, requires that the volunteer has adequate travel insurance that is known to the insurers.

In relation to the specific conditions with the project headquarters. These conditions, due to their specific nature and the differences inherent to the host areas, are mentioned in each and every one of the projects, contents that also due to their importance, will be mentioned in the corresponding indications of work and stay at headquarters.
